Silver: other uses?
Alright, we all agree, silver hurts. bad. I couldn't find any of the threads on silver, but I'v read through the 'werewolf facts' thread.
I'm tring my handa twriting a littlestory. A werwolf one. I started writing this before I found here. But i had this thing for silver in it. Silver works like a poison, a very powerful one. A good amount can kill. But if its poison, shouldn't it work like most other poisos if taken in small amouts, like alcohol, nicotine, and variouse other chemicals? Would a very small amount cause a "high" as the body fights it?
Like I said, this is somthing I put in a story I've been working on for a while.

Silver is poisonous, even to regular humans, if any amount of it gets into your bloodstream somehow.Morkulv wrote:I can't see why silver should hurt anyone. Except your wallet...
As for the main question...
I don't perticularly see silver as being a sort of "Risky High" for werewolves, or having that perticular effect.
However, there is a great deal of mythology surrounding the effects of silver on supernatural forces, so I would not be suprised or opposed to seeing silver being used to forcefully induce, or repress a werewolves transformation...or perhaps have the wearing of, or close proximity to silver having a psychological effect on werewolves, again, either repressing/stablizing thier animal side, or perhaps drawing or forcing it out painfully.
I am curious as well as to what other uses and effects purified silver may have for Werewolves. (In scenarios where it is assumed that it DOES have a significant, unique effect on them.)

Well, this is just somthing i was putting in my story. It was a therory thing I came up with after thinking about how silver would work exactly on weres. I figured poison, and that brought back memories of health and chemistry class. the "highs" and "buzzes" you experiance from drugs are your body reacting to poison. So I thought, "why not have the same for weres and silver."

Interesting suggestion. Depending on how it's poisonous, the idea of it as a drug in low doses is intreaguing.
If not to "get high," perhaps it could conceivably in some storylines be used as, say, a blood pressure medicine?

Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

Silver
Silver in solid form is not normally toxic to humans unless your hypersensitive too it. In India they eat a thin lay of silver or gold called Varak. On the other hand all most all silver salts are toxic and some can increase the rate of cancer. In Colloidal silver a mixture of water and silver can be absorbed into the circulatory system and cause Argyria a condition that turns skin color to a blue-grayish permanently but has no real negative health affects. Silver nitrate may be one of the most dangerous forms of silver it's used in some medical treatments but userly in a 1% solution. It stains skin grayish or blackish in sunlight. It's a poisonous and corrosive compound.
Silver was used to prevent infection in WW1 it is know that silver ions kill
some bacteria, viruses, algae and fungi. Its still used today in many medical application.
Now silver and werewolves is false it is never mentioned in any folk lore that I've seenit came from the movie The Wolf Man. (which was not a silver bullet but a silver headed cane.)

Interesting idea
I think its a neat idea, afterall doctors prescribe all kinds of nasty poisons to combat diseases. So it would make sense that WereDoctors (yay new term) would experiment with their Ultimate Poison to cure diseases.
I think the general consensus is that Silver does affect the wolves of Freeborn, even if it wasnt mentioned in legends...I think.

Well, nowadays, doctors would ideally prefer not to prescribe poison to cure diseases.Neilak20 wrote:I think its a neat idea, afterall doctors prescribe all kinds of nasty poisons to combat diseases. It's just that some poisons (RE: "medicines with toxic side effects") are all we (currently) have to combat some diseases, such as Sleeping Sickness.

True, and I'm sure weredoctors would feel the same, but what if its all they have that works?
