That's not the problem, I think. You'll notice that there is already black in the image. Since black is used to outline the shape and add shadows, a black cloak would cause it to lose a lot of definition, like so:
Which, admittedly, doesn't look
too bad.

I decided to take a stab at it as well...

(...yay! I'm playing with "GIMP" now and got transparency to work.

I like that much better than pure black; although, I like this one a lot as well:

I see you chose the darkest color. I wasn't sure which color to use when I was making it. Vuldari told me to darken it. I guess I didn't darken it enough.
