Banned book rant!

Post by Anubis »

I love to read, belive it or not. and i tend to hang out at my local library about one fourth of my posts are made on thier computers.

but when some ignorant a** hole decides to get a book band cause they think it's some thing that i don't need or it bad for me. well i tend to get a little ticked off. they ban really good books like harry potter and my faverite julie's wolf pack they ban books for relgous, ploitical, and social reasons. it really stupid and goes against the first admendment (freedom of speech!)

i hate when a group of people that DON'T know me dicides what is best for me, only teachers and my parents have the right, not a bunch of old people that think that harry potter is the work of the devil. i hate it! they don't know me they don't know you and they think they can tred on the grouds of our needs and say what we can and cannot read!

if you are one of these arogant dip s*** i got a middle finger for you right here! :x

books should not be banned for any reason. don't want to see a certain book in a library? go to another library. don't want a book in a library? try not to let it get put there in the first place.

i know how you feel... the last thing i need is some Jack Thompson clone running around telling me what to do. the only reason even my own parents have any control of me what-so-ever is becouse i let them (as with all kids, PM me if you want details), and i only let them becouse they're smart enough to know i'm not going to do anything stupid just becouse i read about it in a book, or see it in a game, or on T.V.

I feel ceartain thing should be ban, however there should be good reason. Case in point the Anachist's Cook Book. I don't think we need a book in our public libraries that teaches people to make bombs with household items.(even though its just a google search away). I feel that while it may be alright to ban books from a library, it is not alright to have a book ban from being sold, that is crossing the line. However times are changeing and it will become harder and harder to restrict texts and teachings as they get placed on the internet. I wouldn't be suprised if down the road the goverment comes up with a way to put the whole nation behind a firewall that blocks cearain websites like the one here at my school. You may say that it is impossible due to our rights, but it is amazing what things can get passed in the name of protecting the people, and the sheep that will blindly follow. (I have more to say but its time for class)

I can understand about the Anarchist's Cookbook, but Julie of the Wolves? Come on. I agree with Anubis- If you don't like it, or it goes against you, don't read it.

I think today's the last day of Banned Books Week and my English teacher read off a list of 100 banned or challenged books in 2002. I also found out that The Adventures of Huck Finn is banned in Utah, even though it's still taught in school. Interesting stuff.

They banned "Cycle of the werewolf" In my middle school. I had it but they demanded me to give it back after having it for a day and I later heard it was banned because of "Inappropriate violence amd sexual themes" .

Whatever, I mean I read the whole entire book before they took it away. I was up late reading it. :P

Looks like that did a lot of good, lol. I remember there was a book on the occult in my middle school library, but I was too afraid that if I checked it out someone would freak and I'd have to give it back. Now that the librarian at the high school likes, I'm not worried about it :D

I think banning books because they are against personal beleif is stupid, also banning books because they think it's against their beleifs. Such as Harry Potter being banned.

Though i do think thre are time to time reasons for books getting banned. If its a book all about sex, and not an educational one, okay, ban it, please.

I think they should just make some books adult, if it contians content that children should not be reading, then just make it so only adults can get it. Because its not like there is going to be porno in the Library, I don't know of anything that would have to be adult rated.

it bugs me aswell, alot of people that said that harry potter was the work of the devil probly did not know that pope john paul read it and enjoyed it, plus it deals with good wizards/witches, not satanic gothic kids

People who "knock it before they try it" amuse me. I just can't understand why, if there going to ban anything at least they can have the decentcy to do it on an informed basis.

there is no need. for this arstocratic bull S#@^!
First, aristocratic? So your saying nobilty is banning these books? I bet they have a discussion and vote on these sort of things. Also, though these forums have a bad word block, theres also no need for bad words, even if they are blocked. They don't say anything besides your against it, and then so it doesn't explain why you are.

Note: Yeah I know, just noticed I'm so picky picky. Sorry there. :(
james and the gaint peach
Woah, they banned James and The Gaint Peach? Now thats crazy!!

That would surely be the perfect book for those demonic human flesh craving werewolves. Sure sounds enjoyable!

Yet then, who was the crazy publisher and copyrighter that decided that would be a book to publish and print? Crazy....

Yep, I definitely agree there, things Anarchist's Cookbook and XXX don't belong in a library, but other than obvious extremes, books shouldn't be banned just because they go against some people's opinions.

I believe it should only be for small children because I think that little kid might pick up an adult book with something inaproperate for them and I wouldn't like that for that reason...

That's pretty much where my argument comes from as far as the adult stuff goes. And there are just some people who don't need to know how to build a bomb, even if the information is readily accesable online. They could hurt other people or (far more likely) themselves

Look- The WORST thing you can do is censor- even if it's onyl a bit, cencoring things because 'it's not good for you' is complete and TOTAL BS. I read a lot, like really, a lot. And if anyone thingk's im to immature or not old enough... **** you! I'll read what I damn well please and if you don't lik, go stick your head up your a**. I presume you have ample room because it's obviously been up there for extended periods of time.

Stuff like: "How to kill americans! Wheee!" shouldn't be banned, but the libraryies shouldn't get it, either. stuff like "wheee! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX rated fun!" should not be banned, but should be kept out of the libraries. School libraries should have tighter rules.. Public libraries are built for the public. Adn if you don't like it..... :x

Yeah, I'm all against a total ban on any book, but libraries do need to restrict their selection for certain reasons and I'm okay with that.
