Planet of the Apes
I've seen all 5 old movies and the new one. The old ones had way better storylines although both old and new had good actors. I've never seen the TV show, yet, though. Anybody else seen and like?

Loved all of the old movies. I've seen some episodes of the series too (The humans are all suddenly able to talk for some reason).
Had high expectations for the new one. The makeup was fantastic, but the rest of the movie felt like Tim Burton just got up and left. I mean besides the much needed dose of a nice hairless female body, would anybody have really cared about what happened to Estella Warren (or any of the human characters, like that really stupid kid)?
After a while I was like "Aww, go ahead and kill Mark-y-Mark. In fact, wipe 'em all out! These guys don't deserve to exist, the movie'd probably be better without 'em!"

Sure, I could have stayed, could have even been king. But in my own way...I am King. (grabs girl) Hail to the king, baby!

I was a MAJOR Planet of the Apes fan 'way back when it was first out. So were both of my brothers. Dad had M*A*S*H*, Mom had Dinah, we had Planet of the Apes. I did a whole school report on the books and movies after the local cinema held a PotA marathon, showing the whole series end to end.
One thing I didn't like about the series was that they had the gorillas as the bad guys and the chimps as the good guys. Anyone who's ever watched a documentary on apes knows chimps are raging, tub-thumping bastards and gorillas can be sweethearts (chimps practice cannibalism, gorillas don't). The Burton revision addresses that; the villain is a chimp and while the silverback gorilla can be a badass, he's mostly on the humans' side.
I liked the remake. I admit to being a Tim Burton fangirl, and I was pretty glad to see he can move beyond the garish swirly black-and-white stripes. And I WANT one of those red ape war tents!
