I'm about to lie down and take a nap.

I'll be getting up again around midnightish, then jumping in the car and heading out into the country to watch it. I thought about calling up some friends and taking a contingent, but decided to go this one solo.

Saw the moonrise earlier tonight. Beautiful. Hanging above the treeline and Mythodea was playing on the car stereo. I think Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle have perfect moonrise voices, silvery and graceful.

Right...off to bed...

Decided to stay up.

The moon is crossing right past my apartments and there's a nice big parking lot with no obstructions at the mall just down the street from me.

If the night security comes along, I'll tell him I'm just watching the eclipse and don't want trouble.

Been out to have a look just before. From this angle she's still a rich, deep red, hanging high in the evening sky and with the edge closest to the zenith beginning to brighten up again, with what looks like ever darker bands of red towards the horizon.

Here some pics. Sorry about the quality...they are off a point and shoot camera on FULL zoom :( I think it took me like 15 minutes and out of all the shots I took (60 or so) I only got these two that were semi good. Sorry about the quality again but I hope you enjoy!

Oh and on a side note, I think the camera made the moon reder than it really was, though it's still pretty close! :D

Your pictures look fairly much right on my screen... if anything, the Moon was even redder when I went out for a look.

Yeah I agree. After I took those pics, I went inside for a little while. Then I checked again at.. 4:15ish and it looked different. I think it was the end of it, and here's another pic, of that event.

The time says 4:21am

Unfortunelty I had to sleep but I caught the lunar eclipse 2 years ago on the roof of a condo complex. That and I am on the east coast so it would of been setting by the time it was fully eclipsed. :(

By, the way those are nice pics I didn't have a good enough camera to get pics of last eclipse I caught.
One only knows that of which they allow themselves to know.

Aviso: This account is going to take several forays into the subjective so logical/objective types and atheists may want to skip over it. Or take it with a grain of salt.

I couldn't sleep so I went down to the mall parking lot around 12:30

Found a place where the streetlights weren't going and parked with the Moon-roof open (I guess this is why they call it that hwlwnk )

I listened to ELO for awhile and FINALLY, after an hour, the overnight security guy cruised by and swooped his spotlight at me. I rolled the window, greeted him politely and he said, "Anything wrong?"

"Nope. Just watching the eclipse." He nodded, pulled away, and I waved thank you. Hey, he's keeping the tweakers away :)

So I listened to Face The Music and Mythodea for a little while longer and thought that ELO is just as good a soundtrack for moon- and stargazing as Pink Floyd is. And just as "Strange Magic" came on, I noticed Luna's crash craters were...darker.

The eclipse had begun.

And this is when things got *seriously* weird.

I noticed dark spirits flitting around the parking lot. I had a conversation with a werewolf who walked up to the car, fairly aggressive, and snarled at me through the moonroof. I looked up at (him? Her?) calmly, smiled a little, and s/he drove the aggression factor down a notch or two. We talked, I invited hir to stay for the duration, and s/he settled down outside on the passenger side door. I looked up and there was a dent in Luna.

The spirits were still circulating, but only the werewolf spirit approached. I could see the others for brief glimpses as the eclipse progressed. I don't know whether it was sleepiness endorphins, or my healing eye playing tricks on me, or whether Luna was projecting an eclipse-illusion, but She seemed to be swimming back and forth and occasionally standing completely still. So I could be sure, I occasionally cut my eyes and did the "focus-far-and-near" computer eye thing to give my eyes a rest, then looked back.

I could understand why people used to get so freaked out over eclipses. It is freaky to see Her go through all the waxing phases in the space of an hour, backwards, and then turn...not the colour of blood, I rather thought She was the colour of an oldish penny. When we were down to the sliver of silver on the edge of dark copper, was when I started really visioning. I won't go into what I saw because I get the feeling that was for me alone.

Some people came down on foot with their dogs to watch the eclipse. They gathered about a hundred feet away and let their dogs scamper around, playing, while they watched the Moon cloak Herself. They left and walked back towards the mall when it was complete, and I decided that I'd had my fill. I was tired, I'd seen the Moon disappear and put on Her nice copper dress that Earth gave her; so I thanked the Eclipse Spirits and the spirit werewolf good-night, and headed home.

Sorry, no photos :( but thanks for taking those photos, guys! :) Joker, are you going to post your video on YouTube?

I watched as much as I could.. but it was around 3:45 am and there was still a sliver of the white of the moon left. it was neat though I had a pair of binoculars and got to see human eye vs closer look with the things. ^^ but I was soo tired.. still am.. my alarm went off this morning and my first thought was.. "aww... need more sleep"

H'mmm...this is interesting.

The eclipse happened while the Moon was in Pisces, which is a highly mystical sign. Moon = wisdom, eclipse = the occult, Pisces = mysticism, and we're having a very metaphysical astrological transit right now. Sounds like a serious mystical mojo happening, which would explain the visions and weird experiences.

I missed it, but I've seen a lunar eclipse a few times before. There are two things I want to see before I die. What it looks like from the moon during a lunar eclipse, and a solar eclipse. One day I will fly to whatever area is getting a solar eclipse so I can finally see it for myself.
