This is a seriously uneccessary thread. The original "Origins" thread is still on the front page.

A pun is a confusion of similat sounding words for (usually) humorous effect. I was just answering "where did werewolves come from" with an answer for "Which came first: The chicken or the egg?"

I hope Marine Wolf wouldn't find it too offensive to delete this thread; it is a bit redundant.

Deleting it would probably be best. But if you don't, here's a pun for wolf marine: http://fenrir.nonexiste.net/~lupin/manetee.JPG

To tell the truth, I see no reason to delete it. If someone accidentally stumbles in here, there's a link to the correct thread. All it takes is not posting here and posting in the other one instead. At the very worst, locking may be appropriate, but why delete it?

Thats what the people at the home theater forum does. They lock it and point to the other thread.

They don't have the modification to the board that allows that. The only way to do it w/o upgrading would be manually, by someone who has access to the database, which is way more work than it's worth.

At any other forum, I wouldn't mind redundant threads, but at this particular forum, there's only four pages worth of thread titles separating this and the thread that's collected the most dust since this forum's opening. I like this about the forum because, assuming a newcomer takes the few minutes needed to at least look over the list of topic titles, repeat topics are unecessary.

Right now, as of my posting this, there are 172 threads in the "What should a werewolf be?" forum. It took me about two minutes to count them, so there's really no excuse for a newcomer not to review at least their topic titles to see if any match what he would have otherwise started.

So if there's any reason why this thread should be deleted, it's to keep that list small enough that it can be reviewed. Right now, the list of threads is small enough that a person could browse it with ease and review only the contents of the thread matching that which they would have otherwise started. However, if we just let these repeats pile up, the list will expand, and not only will newcomers be less likely to review it, but it may become more difficult for us to find and link to the originals, thus repeats will abound.

And since the original thread in which this was discussed is still on the front page, there's really no excuse to have repeated it.

Hmm... you make a good point.

This is only one possible solution, but it might be appropriate to make a duplicate threads section and toss them all in there with links to the correct threads. That will keep the main sections clean and we wouldn't have to delete anything. I'd be willing to make that work in the sections I can moderate.

Some might not like it if their threads are moved like that, but I don't think they would like it any more or less if their threads were deleted instead.

Good? Bad? Better ideas?

hmmmm........Terastas...would you like to help moderate the "What should a werewolf be" thread?" The more eyes we have, the better we can keep it looking clean and straight. :D

A duplicate threads section? :? Hmmmm......well.....have it to where they can "read only" in that section. No responces. That way they can respond in the appropriate thread.

*shrugs* Sure, I pretty much do that anyway. It shouldn't be difficult enough that we'd need to assemble some kind of task force for this. All we would really need to inform the newbies to please review the list of topics before starting repeat threads is a sticky topic at the top asking newbies, well... to please review the list of topics before starting repeat threads.

Though just to clarify, I don't think we should just delete any thread that resembles another; that would definitely peeve a lot of posters. I think we should just continue what we've been doing; start off by linking to the original thread and remind them to try to avoid repeats as long as the list of threads is small, then either delete it if the topic starter apologizes and requests such, refrain from deleting it if the topic starter can clarify how his thread is different, or delete it if it's been inactive (apart from puns and duckie-tosses) for a week or so.
:? Does that make sense?
