From http://www.follicle.com/hair-structure-life-cycle.html : Anagen Phase - Growth Phase Approximately 85% of all hairs are in the growing phase at any one time. The Anagen phase or growth phase can vary from two to six years. Hair grows approximately 10cm per year and any individual hair is unlike...

The gestalt-form hand has a wolf-paw surface, but a human-hand structure. Opposable thumb and dextrous digits are definitely human characteristics. :D

That's why I creatively dodged the issue. :D

Anything shorter than 4-5" should match the hackles (which will likely be the same color anyway).

I figure a third option would be better, combining a mostly-human hand with paw pads and thicker, shorter digits ending in claws--sort of like a person wearing a thick wolf paw "glove". The gestalt-form werewolf won't be doing fine manipulation (so no surgery or threading needles), but can...

How about this? If the human form has super-long hair, so does the gestalt form--and the wolf form. If you want to pass for wolf, cut your hair. :D

I always figured that werewolves live no longer on average than normal people, though they can stay active longer because they're generally much healthier. If anything, werewolves should live less long than normal people, as they "burn the candle at both ends". I was never quite sure where...

The wrist pad is a nice little detail that doesn't hurt to have. It can look a bit odd, but it makes sense for it to be there. Wolves have them, so half-wolves should have at least something like it. Somewhat paw-like hands work better with them. The way I figure things, gestalt form isn't a linear ...

Basically, it comes down to both CGI and animatronics looking fake but in different ways. :D (CGI is much more flexible overall, hence its popularity, but animatronics and costumes can integrate into the scene better because they're actually there . Getting actors to respond properly helps when ther...

Besides, animatronics and costumes have a certain "realness" to them that CGI lacks, even though both are imperfect. Think of it this way: with CGI creatures, every shot with a gestalt-form werewolf would be an expensive effect shot, and thus they will appear for less time in the film, mos...

Farscape struck a good balance between animatronics and costumes for characters and CGI for effect shots. Still, Farscape was one of the most expensive TV series ever produced.

CGI costs more per unit of screen time, so it needs to be used sparingly.

I used to be a big proponent of CGI for everything, but for organic characters I've come to prefer skilled animatronics and costumes like the Henson Creature Shop produces. CGI tends to look somewhat fake even when done well, and more often than not moves unnaturally--especially during intense actio...

Assuming lycanthropes have human intelligence in all forms, they would be legally regarded as people, not animals. Animals do not have the reasoning abilities of people, so the law falls on their owners, caretakers, and handlers instead. If lycanthropy is hereditary and non-transmissible, and the ly...

I'd though about how a "half-were" would turn out, since I tend to treat lycanthropy as hereditary and non-transmissible, and possibly a separate (i.e. incompatible) species. My first take was that they can only change in the range between human and gestalt, with some difficulty, and lack ...

I'd stay away from variable fur color, if only because fur color is one of the major distinguishing features in gestalt or wolf form (size and body type being others). Summer coat vs. winter coat should be the only "natural" variation, being something that wolves already have. Werewolves a...

The problem with all that is that you may have a very small chance of detection, but you have to consider the large number of potential observers and long period of time over which an observation could occur. It only takes one incontrovertible sighting and the game is over. Multiple sightings or cre...
