Kill shelters are depressing to me. :( basically any animal shelter I walk into is. When I go in and see and hear all the dogs begging for me to save them, just makes me so sad. I wish I could save them all :(

Yeah, my first dog I got from a vet. She was scheduled to be put down the next day. :(
But she made us a wonderful companion for the next 8 years. :)
The next dog was from a kill shelter(that thankfully didn't know she was part pit), I loved her so much. I've only had that kind of bond with two animals in my life. They were more family to me than some of my human family.

this is NOT true, most people that buy pitbulls treat thier dog like a regular dog like they would any other breed. MOST pitbulls are normal family pets, but we dont hear about them becuz that kind of behaviour doesnt make it to front page news.
I agree with Z. My friend had two rednose pitbull and they were a really sweet and playful dogs (strong too). But unfortnatly some guy was hurrasing one of the dogs who was named Macho. Macho tried to back the person off but I think the guy was holding Macho but the neck (he claims that he was preventing the dog from biting him), then Bella (the other dog) tried to get the guy hands off Macho and she bit him softly because the guy didnt even have a mark. Anyway later he sued againts the bella and then they had to put her to rest. As for Macho, he was so upset that he lost hes will to live, he didnt want to eat, he didnt want to play, he didnt want to pay much attention to anything. They had to give him up. And this is a true story.

I have to disagree. Around here probably 80% of the pitbulls are tied up in someone's back yard wih no shelter, food, or water. Things are kind of different in Texas. You have a lot of ignorant jerks who hate animals but like to make them fight.
There are very few pits in good family homes here because people are too afraid of them because all they've seen are dogs that have been torutured into being viscious.

its mainly because its not human, they think that theres no reason to give the dogs rights. pisses me off really.
A little off topic:

Has anyone else noticed the rise in dog products? Birthday cakes, spa treatments, dog houses with air conditioners that cost thousands or dollars? And now like every dog had at least one coat or t shirt. We're going down a route where dogs will be considered people soon. The way its going, they look like they'll have rights one day. And hey who know, maybe even manage a few words. 8)

nobody will profit from dogs having rights, thus, it will never happen. all the other items u mentioned were created by businesses who simply wanted to milk the dog product industry for all its worth, and not becuz they nessecarily cared about dogs.
I agree. Have you seen those little boots for dogs? thats crazy, most dogs I know about cant stand having anything on their feet. not to mention cramping problems...

In anycase, I think we have more important issues at hand as of the moment, like US government betraying there own people andmaking everyone in the country expendable. :P

It's a band-aid legislation. They don't have the yarblockos to rout the people who breed dogs for fighting so they try to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

And personally, I'm afraid of a slippery slope. If we ban pit bulls, rottweilers and other fighting dogs, then we have a precedent to kill off Andalusian and Lusitano horses, too. They're used in bullfighting.
